A painting begins with an emotion whether it comes from a memory, a conversation or the sun and shade fighting over a shiny drainpipe. To me, colors have feelings and shapes have a story to tell. Scribbles, words and icons are the archeology of a piece. Some I allow to peek out for the viewer yet many are my secrets hidden in the finished painting.
I like the challenge of both plein air and large studio pieces and the way they inform each other.
